So I have again been super busy with just everyday life so I haven't really had the time to be very exciting ... or at least anything exciting enough to write about.
That is up until like the end of September when Levi all of the sudden broke out in hives all over his body. Luckily it was just the rash and no breathing problems or itching ... but it was so bad it was enough to scare me. So I wrote down everything we had for dinner (hotdogs, banana, homemade brownies - pretty healthy huh). I contacted his doctor the next morning and he said it was possibly a food allergy but maybe a viral rash ... maybe I should bring him in??? That afternoon he again broke out in a rash (black bean burrito, corn, honey grahams, pineapple). He broke out in the hives about 4 times over the next week and I tracked what he ate only really finding that he was definitely allergic to bananas but there was something else as well and we went in to the allergist for a skin test the following week.
He did so great for the skin test ... only a little crying at the very start but then was such a big boy. The results showed soy, sesame, a small reaction to peanuts and bananas (also cats, 2 types of grass and dust mites ... all of these were small reactions that the doctor said were pretty common and not to really worry too much about). The food allergies however ... since he is starting to have the hives with are a concern.
We are in the process now of going in today for lab work to confirm the findings and taking all of these foods out of his diet if needed (easier said then done ... any idea how many products soy is in ... I'll give you a hint ... EVERYTHING!!!!!).
So I'm not sure what the tests today will find because he is definitely allergic to something besides the bananas because he hasn't had them in weeks and has had three outbreaks. I can only hope that the reactions continue to remain just at the rash and not progress into anything life threatening and that he outgrows the allergies.
My nephew was allergic to all the same things. He couldn't have milk, or soy milk. He was on rice milk. Also, bananas, PB, soy, and others. He is now 12 and has grown out of them. Now he is allergic to all the environmental allergens. Did he have a lot of ear infections? My nephew did, thats what prompted the allergy testing when he was very young...a year or so, he had to get tubes. Once they allergy tests came back and they changed his diet his ears cleared up.
