It only takes a little seed
Thursday evening when I went to bed I noticed a pretty vague post on FB by a friend to pray. I sent her a text and didn't hear back ... I went off to bed and figured I would followed up another time.
I could never have imagined the news that I found out on Friday that was behind that post. As a mother, or a parent for that matter, I think our biggest fear is for something to happen to our children that would put the life our child into the hand's of someone else. My friend's 14 month old aspirated a piece of popcorn and it was lodged in his lung for 3 days. This caused a collapsed lung, pneumonia and a pretty serious surgery to removed the seed from his airway. He is still in the hospital and has a long road to recover. Thinking about it now still brings tears to my eyes. The strength of a family to handle this kind of an ordeal is tremendous. From the moment I found out little Axel was in the hospital he never left my thoughts. I had my entire family praying. All I could think about was how my friend could be dealing with this. I was falling apart and it wasn't even my child.
I had a long conversation with Levi about little Axel and even though Levi is a few years older ... and even though I know this could happen with any number of things. Levi and I have decided popcorn will no longer be a snack item in our home.
