Recovery ... blows, but results don't

So one thing I don't do well is ... nothing.  Sure I love a nice lazy day around the house but even then I like to get up and organize or clean or do some stretches .. just so I don't feel so lazy ha.

I didn't put out there a lot on FB or anything about my surgery but here it is.

After several years of researching and debating I finally decided to go ahead with a surgery I had been looking into.  I decided on getting a breast reduction.  At the end of the day I had a reduction, lift and reshaping so sort of getting back to where I was before I had Levi and before I had my yo yo in weight gain and loss.  In college, I was around a 32/34 B (barely ... or when I wore one lol).  During my pregnancy I got up to a 36 H (this was not a comfortable or natural looking place to be for me).  After breast feeding and gaining the pregnancy weight, then losing the pregnancy weight, then gaining the "haha you are 35 weight" and then losing the "great now I have to workout" weight I was in a 32 DDD and even that didn't fit well when I could find a bra that semi fit (and I bought a ton).  So the past year I basically lived in sports bras.  It was painful to try and workout since I never could find a bra that fit properly for support and I was uncomfortable with the way I looked and since I already had back issues due to herniated discs it didn't help that I wasn't supported up there.

So, I went in last year to look into a reduction ... well my mammogram came up with some spots on it and they were concerned and I had to have a biopsy.  Due to this my dr would not recommend me for surgery.  So I waited for the next year.  Of course this next year I had another abnormal mammogram but luckily they did an ultrasound and it was a lymph node so my dr and surgeon cleared me for the surgery.

When I first went in I thought what I really needed was a lift and I wanted them smaller.  Having a consultation to really see what was going on was eye opening.  I had lost a lot of volume (even though I thought I had a ton of volume haha) so that is where the reshaping came in.  I set a date and that was that.

I was never nervous about the surgery.  I am not one that gets nervous about going under or having surgery.  I was concerned that after I was finished they would still be too big.  At the consult they show you a computer image of an after picture.  I was shocked because my after picture I felt was still larger than I wanted.  I think my surgeon thought I was kidding when I told her I wanted to be back down to a B cup.  I wasn't.  She readjusted things and the day of the surgery I felt confident I was going to be pleased.

I have to give a huge shout out to my friend Cassie.  My surgery was scheduled for the 2nd week in July.  Cassie, who lives 4 hrs away, has a full time job and 3 children, drove down to be able to take me to my procedure and stay a few days.  Well, I ended up getting a pretty high fever a few days before my surgery and we had to post pone.  I was super bummed but of course don't want to chance anything.  So my surgery was moved to the end of July.  Cassie, once again, drove back down to take care of me.  She was great.  Made sure I got to my surgery on time, made sure I got home, picked Levi up, got us fed, got my meds, the list just goes on.  She was amazing.  Of course, she had to leave me after a few days and that left me with Levi.  We did a lot of delivery for dinner and Levi would help me with my water and meds so we survived.  I don't suggest not having help if you have younger kids but Levi was able to help me out.

I am a little over 2 weeks post op and while the swelling hasn't gone away and the incisions are completely healed I am able to get up and around and do most things.  I have to be careful not to be out and about too much.  I learned the hard way that I am anemic from the blood loss and haven't quite recovered from this. So I am still in the process of making sure to get my strength back.  The heat outside doesn't help with this.  I am making sure to get my water intake back up to the 100oz a day that it was before the surgery as well.

So, if I were to do it all over again ... I would.  If someone were to ask if I recommend it ... I would say have a consult at the very least.  Surgery isn't for everyone but seeing the options can't hurt.
